Finding the time and place of your court appearance

Criminal cases

If you have received a Court Attendance Notice to attend the Children’s Court, you must attend the nominated Children’s Court on the day and time stated in the Court Attendance Notice. 

If you do not attend court, the judicial officer may issue a warrant for your arrest. If you have been granted bail you may also be charged with the further offence of failing to appear at court without a reasonable excuse.

If you are prevented from attending court you must contact the relevant Children’s Court as soon as possible. Registry staff can advise you what to do. 

Care and protection cases

If you have received a copy of an application filed in the Children’s Court on behalf of the Secretary of the Department of Communities and Justice, you should attend the relevant Children’s Court on the day and time nominated in the Notice of Listing. Note, in July 2019, Family and Community Services and Justice came together to become the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ).

If you do not attend court the judicial officer may make orders in your absence.  In some circumstances, the judicial officer may issue a warrant for your arrest.  

If you are prevented from attending court you must contact the relevant Children’s Court as soon as possible. Registry staff can advise you what to do.  

Compulsory Schooling Orders

If you have received a copy of an application filed in the Children’s Court on behalf of the Secretary of the Department of Education you should attend the relevant Children’s Court on the day and time nominated in the Notice of Listing.
